I'm a terrible blogger!

So, it's been awhile (a whole year) since my last blog post.  I really wish I had more time to do this, but alas life is busy.  The last school year was really tough - I didn't sleep much or have any time for anything besides my family and schoolwork.  Then when summer rolls around I forget that I even have a blog.  I discovered this new app for my phone called istory and it's kind of like a mini blog/diary.  If I can figure out how to transfer what I've typed in it to my blog, I will post that.

We've just finished our technology-free week for this summer.  It was much more successful than last summer.  The kids played games, read books, colored, went swimming, and built our usual summer fort.  Now it's time to take it down and start focusing on getting ready for school - blah!  But the Olympics start today so we're excited about that.  I think this school year will be somewhat more relaxed than the last one.  It will be a pivotal year for us:  Jacob is a senior so it will be his last year of high school.  It will be Jordan's last year of middle school before he starts high school.  And it will be Joshua's last year of daycare/preschool before he starts kindergarten.  Where does the time go?

The next thing I'm going to type is something that upset me this morning and I feel like blogging about it.  So if you are a liberal, non-Christian, you might want to stop reading here or you might get offended.  My family loves Chick-Fil-A.  We go there because the food is good and is probably the healthiest of fast food options.  It upsets me that they are getting such flack for "stating" that they don't support gay marriage.  What happened to freedom of speech?  The reason I'm upset is the last time we went to Chick-Fil-A, the kids got muppet toys in their kids' meals and my kids love the Muppets!  They were so excited about their muppet puppets that they got to create that they pulled out Rachel's puppet theater and took turns putting on shows with the puppets she already had and their new muppet puppets.  Today I read in the paper that Jim Henson, inc. pulled their muppet toys from the kids meals because they are mad that Chick-fil-A won't support gay marriage.  Really?!?!  Last night our kids got half of a cookie (they don't like chocolate chip cookies) in their kids meal instead of a toy because the muppets toys were pulled so abruptly.  It just made me think how the kids are suffering because of adults who think they need to protest against what others believe.  I guess I should tell my kids that they shouldn't like the muppets anymore because the people who created them believe in gay marriage.  See - that's not how I think.  Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. seem to only be okay for liberals who are against anything that supports christianity and the bible.  My kids wouldn't even be here if I was to believe that gay marriage is a natural thing.  It goes against God's design and is not natural - that's how I feel. And Chick-Fil-A has as much right to believe in that as I do.  Was anyone really confused about why they're closed on Sunday?

Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest.  It's scary where our society is headed in light of recent events.  I can only teach my children to stand for what they believe in even when society tells you that you shouldn't believe or have faith in anything.

So I just got on Facebook and found out that Chick-Fil-A voluntarily pulled the muppets toys first because of safety concerns for kids.  Then Jim Henson company told them that they will no longer partner with Chick-Fil-A because of their stand on gay marriage.  Still makes me mad!

I haven't bothered checking your blog this summer because I assumed you'd likely left it in the dust, as I have :) But I'm glad to see that you posted something afterall! I wish we'd had the chance to get together this summer, but it seems that we were busier this summer than during the last school year - go figure!!! Oh well, I guess we'll have to resort to our typical weekend visits again soon :)

As for the CFA debacle, I think it was absolutely ridiculous, and while I was glad to see that mainstream America supported them so strongly on 8/1, I too am sick & tired of the back & forth about gay marriage and all it stands for. Nowadays, if you speak out against the liberal agenda, they call you stupid or uneducated. Why can't we have a differing opinion and not be slandered as unintelligent in the process?!? That's what really gets to me...the fact that if you say "no" when everyone else says "yes", that makes you wrong! Isn't freedom of speech encompassed in differing opinions? If we all believed the same thing, across the board, there would be no reason for "free speech" right?!?

Stepping down off my soap box :)

But well said Misti!!!

Hope its a great school year for you guys - and that we see you before Christmas!!!
